Cane Sizing
How to Size and Fit Your Walking Cane
Below are the instruction to find your accurate cane height.
-
Remove the rubber tip from the cane by twisting the tip.
-
Put on your usual walking shoes.
- Stand naturally & upright as possible.
- Let your arms fall to the sides naturally with a relaxed bend at the elbow.
- Have someone help place the cane with the handle on the ground on the side you will be using the cane. Mark the shaft where it touches the middle crease of the user’s wrist. The cane should then be cut using a sharp saw for an even cut. Reattach rubber tip.
-
Important: Certain users may have specific conditions that will require them to have the cane at a different length. When a cane is to be used as a mobility aid, we recommend that the purchaser be advised to have the cane properly sized by a health care professional.
How to Measure a Cane Without the Person There?
Walking canes can be adjusted to the height of the user based upon that most canes will be within one inch of half their height.
Example: For someone 6' tall. Convert height into inches = (72Inches) then divide in half = 36 inches. 36 Inches would be the estimated length. Please round up to the nearest half inch. (Remember you can alway's make it shorter but not longer so caution on the side of length)
